New Life Family Center,
Elizabeth City, NC
Oct. 12-14, 2001
Can
anything good ever come out of Elizabeth City? Okay, well maybe it was Nazareth!
But I am sure the same thing has been thought and stated through the years about
this small, rural North Carolina town. Only two years ago, Phil and Kathy Dowdy
determined to put the past defeats of this little, beleaguered group of believers
in Elizabeth City, behind them for good. They renamed the fellowship, "New
Life"-so appropriate and so accurate. They connected with Vanguard Ministries
to provide them covering, counsel and accountability. With a new name and a new
network connection they set their sights high-to transform this city by the power
of worship, prayer and unity!
On October 12-14, the Dowdys and their followers celebrated
God's goodness, which has been displayed in so many ways. They convened in a refurbished
Auto store building in downtown Elizabeth City, which had become home to NLFC
one year ago. Their numbers have swelled to from a handful to over 100. An Outreach
Center, which feeds, clothes, and counsels the homeless and needy of the county,
operates from the facility on weekly basis. Pastor Dowdy reports that there have
been amazing breakthroughs in the unity of the pastors in the city over the last
2 years resulting in revival fires.
For
these three days, NLFC enjoyed the presence of God through worship and thanksgiving.
Pastors Lance and Annabelle Wallnau, of Providence, Rhode Island, also VM members,
delivered several timely and powerful messages to edify the believers and help
position them for a greater harvest in the future. Many guests attended the sessions
from the city and surrounding towns to taste the goodness of God. No one was disappointed.
Everyone is already anticipating next year's gathering and the breakthroughs which
will surely be experienced in the next 12 months.
