Attendees
of the Vanguard Leadership Summit 2004, THE LEADERSHIP MATRIX,
report being challenged and equipped to move beyond their limitations.
This event was described as a huge learning event with a buffet
of high caliber speakers, varied and excellent. Taste and see.
On
Tuesday night the Summit kicked off with a sumptuous banquet and
the delightful accompaniment of the Parroco Jazz Ensemble. On
an unusual note, Bobby Hill’s message challenged leaders to consider
“unlearning” during this conference. He confronted the possibility
that today’s ministry may require “unlearning” layers of tradition,
but all the while holding fast to the tenets of faith.
As
in previous Leadership Summits, Lance Wallnau delivered an unrelenting
barrage of ideas to his hearers. This year Lance pushed VM members
to see the Kingdom of God as transcending church and ministries
and reaching into the foundational structures of social order.
He issued a call to find the leverage points to transform church,
business and economics, government, education, media, the arts,
and the other major arenas of life so that they all conform to
the Lordship of Jesus.
Pastor
Bill Johnson began with an exhortation to activate faith by moving
beyond the ordinary into the miraculous. Bill’s call is for theology
to become our experience in the highways and byways of life. He
says it’s a good day when the leading of the Holy Spirit is heard
and obeyed to the point of invading everyday life situations with
the power of God’s presence.
Flexible
structures and permanent relationships characterized the message
of Graham Cooke. His word to Vanguard was born out of his own
experience of needing to find the trust in God to allow organizational
structures to be flexible enough to reach and relate to people
where they are, and yet be strong enough relationally to allow
people to hang together in spite of structure.
Tim
Elmore presented a challenging comparison of the leadership styles
of the last 70 years and the transition to an emerging leadership
approach for the new century. Tim’s powerful use of words and
images led to a reevaluation of effective leadership, the pitfalls
of poor leadership, and personal leadership skills.
Here’s
what participants had to say when asked how the Lord ministered
to them during the 2004 Leadership Summit.
“Numerous
questions were answered, I felt as though I had heart surgery,
my doctrine was challenged and my vision built up.”
“The
variety of teaching and giftings met a variety of needs. Life
transforming messages session after session.”
“Stretched
my thinking. My God has been far too small and I’ve been inspired
to delve deeper in intimacy with him.”
“My
expectancy level concerning life with God has increased exponentially.”
“Unlearning!
Passion to serve! Inspiration to carry out new model of leadership!”
“Excitement
to continue this journey of discovering who God is and how He
works.”
“Aha!
moments of convergence.”
“He
(the Lord) brought more focus to my call.”
